I tried to look at a GE Cafe matte white fridge (I think they're stunning), but I'm living in a small town in Northern Ontario, and such a thing cannot be seen in any store.Īlrighty, final update for me on this thread. I do plan on putting a counter depth fridge/freezer in the pantry in any event. I'm either going to go with a full size 36' wide fridge (and recess it into the closet on the other side of that wall so it's flush with the kitchen cabinets), or I might contemplate stand alone freezer and fridge columns in one of the higher end brands, either panel ready or SS (depending on cabinet fronts I choose), and split them up to balance out the kitchen. The higher end brands like Thermador, Dacor, etc., are much taller and similar to each other in size. And if you did install them separately and didn't care about the matching, you couldn't just stick any column fridge or freezer from another brand into the hole, because the sizes don't fit. He also told me that it has happened to customers in the past who bought similar product pairs (not the high end ones), and had one of the units break and, because the company was no longer making the exact same unit, both sides had to be replaced or they would not have matched. The fridge only comes with the handle on the left and the freezer's door handle is only on the right. In case you are curious, the appliance dealer told me that the Frigidaire duo's door swings cannot be switched. If you do order from AJ Madison, you might be better off to arrange your own installer.

If you need an appliance installed, though, it might be safer to try to negotiate with the local store to get the AJ Madison price on the appliance and pay them to do the installation. I expect AJ Madison offers installation as a way to further compete with local appliance stores, who do actually provide installation on delivery. OTOH, AJ Madison offered installation, installation did not happen, and now installation is delayed. DB found someone else to do the installation next week.ĪJ Madison didn't do too awfully badly here - they responded very quickly, and $50 is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. AJ Madison apologized for the "miscommunication" between DB and the truckers, and offered him a $50 credit on his card for his inconvenience. Since they did not measure any openings or review any installation manuals (the boxes were not opened) and since the old wall oven was still in situ, this could not have been the case. The truckers told AJ Madison that they couldn't do the installation because the openings were the wrong size for the appliances and more work was needed on the cabinetry than they could do. DB let them leave and contacted AJ Madison, who contacted the truckers. They said they thought they were supposed to give an estimate for installation, and they didn't have any of the tools or kits necessary for actual installation. When the truck arrived, the deliverymen disavowed any knowledge of a planned installation.

He ordered from AJ Madison, and they told him they would arrange installation of both "at the time of delivery by certified installers." They said installation would cost $125 for the cooktop and $175 for the oven, but that he would pay the trucking company directly on installation. When my DB's electric cooktop died, he decided to switch to induction, and he needed a new wall oven, too.
